About us

Short Drag Roger were formed in 2003 by an over enthusiastic set of land-lubbers who had a passion for the ancient days of sail. Having come from an eclectic background, from choristers, opera singers and dedicated folkies, we have created one of the most passionate shanty crews in the U.K.

Having developed a large repertoire over the years and having said goodbye to few a few shipmates and pressganged others, our current line up is

Paul "Short Drag" Rogers - A long time ago in a town far - far away, a young lad listened to shanty, finally having been pressganged the force led him to "the shanty" where he became a true disciple. Occasionally heard in the singing lead, but mainly just running the motley crew.

Mark "Folky" Palethorpe - Sat ashore in a pub, Folky was wassailing away with bearded chaps when some rough shantymen came by and pressed him on their crew. this gave rise to the phrase "Drive-by shanty-ing" and he has come a long way (126 miles) from his footbakll terrace song days in Derby.

Geoff "The Dancing Master" Woods- If its a long haul shanty you want, then is yer man. Escaping the clutches of Morris for the weekend, Geoff fills his boots.

Peter ?The Deep? Hunt - Brought up in the foreign shores of Scotland Peter learnt his trade by singing fancy stuff in Cathedrals and Opera Halls. With a voice registering 8.2 on the richter scale, The Deep can be heard leading choirs and choral societies across Oxfordshire. When he leads, others follow

Steve "The Choirboy" Froggatt - Harmonies, a slim figure and charm oozing from every pore. When ashore the ladies have to watch out for the choirboy.
